It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, brother and friend, Michael Hugh Gouthro, age 56, on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at the Northside General Hospital, following a brief battle with cancer.
Born in North Sydney, on July 7, 1959, he was the son of the late Hilton Charles and Theresa Lorraine (MacLean) Gouthro.
Michael worked in construction and was a member of Local #92 Labourer Union in Ft. McMurray for over 35 years. He was a very kind hearted person, always lending a helping hand to others. He was a great fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, loved going fishing, was the official score keeper at family washer toss games and was a volunteer at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish and ballfield.
Mike loved spending time with family and friends, telling stories and having a laugh.
The most cherished in his life were his daughter, Sheila and grandkids, Coen “Little Buddy” and Jada “Little One”.
He is survived by his daughter, Sheila (Dwayne Green), Ft. McMurray; grandchildren, Coen and Jada; brothers, Ricky (Mary), Joey, Tim, all of North Sydney, Sheldon, Halifax; sisters, Rosemary (Hector Campbell), Sydney Mines and Michelle (Jonathan MacDonald), Long Island and by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Mike was predeceased by his brother Johnny 'Max' and nephew John Edward.
Visitation for Mike will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jake Andrea officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
