It is with sadness that the family announce the passing of Leo A. McNeil on Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (MacDonald) McNeil. Leo resided on Sydney Street, in Glace Bay.
He is survived by sons, Jackie (Irene) G.B., Leo Jr. (Francine) Reserve, Harold, G.B, Kevin (Maxine), Miram and Bradley, G.B; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ignatius, Hamilton, Jerome, Sydney, Gerald, Gardiner Mines, Michael (Florence), Coxheath, Jerry (Teri-Lynn), Dominion; sister, Rene, Hamilton.
Besides his parents, Leo was predeceased by his loving wife, Marjorie (Watkins) McNeil in 2015; daughter, Debbie; son, Charles; grandchildren, Bobby Jo, Tyler and Justin; brothers, Cecil, Charles, Melvin; sisters, Johnina, Mildred and Kate.
Leo was a distinguished member of the Canadian Armed Forces and served in Korea with the Queens Own Rifle (QOR) as a United Nations Peace Keeper. Leo retired from #26 Colliery, where he was a coal miner for many years.
Leo was an active member of St. Leo's Parish and most recently St. Anne's Parish. A sincere thank you to palliative care, Dr. S. Ellerker, Dr. Asim, Dr. Galairn, nurses and staff at the Glace Bay Hospital for the great care given to Leo and his family these past few, very difficult weeks.
There is no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 12th at St Anne's Church, Glace Bay. The Rev Leo Boone will be officiating. The interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
