Annie Alberta "Bertie" Martin

MARTIN, Annie Alberta "Bertie",
Pictou
MARTIN, Annie Alberta "Bertie" - 85 of the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou and formerly of Church Street, Pictou passed away March 7, 2016 in the home.
Born in Hillside, Pictou County on May 9, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Clarence & Zelma "Zally" (MacNeil) Falconer. She was the youngest of the seven Falconer girls, and was the last surviving member.
In 1952 she met Harold Martin, who was passing through from his home in New Zealand. They were married for almost 43 years, until his passing in 1995.
For 30 years Bertie rented properties in Pictou and was a well known and well liked landlady. Bertie's greatest accomplishment, though, was her family and was proud that her five children got a solid education and are down-to-earth, kind people.
Bertie is survived by her five children, Anne Gratton (Jack), Pictou; Bill (Tammy), Tanner Hill; Jack (Laura), Braeshore; Jim (Barb), Pictou; and Noella, Halifax; 10 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Harold John "HJ" Martin, much beloved grandson Dale Dennis, and sisters Clara Knowles, Esther MacIsaac, Girldie Cook, Angie Flagg, Joyce Willis and Maisie Diggins.
Bertie loved getting good deals at auctions and yard sales and had a great sense of humor and was kind to all animals. Many people will remember Harold and Bertie walking their dogs in Pictou. The Martin household always had a dog and at least one cat. Her most recent pets, Lacey the dog and Mittsy the cat, have already found new homes with Bertie's daughters.
Visitation will be from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Thursday in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday in First Presbyterian Church, Pictou. A reception will follow in the church hall.
Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only please.
Donations in Bertie's memory may be made to the Pictou County S.P.C.A.
The Martin family would like to thank the wonderful staff and residents at the Shiretown Nursing Home.
