Mabel Marie Schofield, age 90, of Lockhartville/Hants Border, Kings County, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2016, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on July 3, 1925, in Hantsport, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late James and Ida (Barron) Graham. She was a twenty-five year member and past Noble Grand of the former Helping Hand Rebekah Lodge #40, Hantsport. She along with her husband owned and operated for many years, the General Store and Post Office in Lockhartville, and previously worked for Wilbur & Shirley Starrett, Avonport. Mabel is survived by her children, Diane Skelhorn, Kentville; Brenda (Roy) Rogers, Kentville; Randy (Heather) Schofield, Lockhartville; sister, Joyce (Bob) Sawler, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Josephine Beckwith, Martins River; grandchildren, Shawn (Michelle) Skelhorn, Norm (Kimberly) Skelhorn, Sheri (Chris) Pottie, Sara Schofield (Jason Doirion), Toni Bennett (Mitch Houghton), Tony (Patti) Rogers, Tim (Janelle) Rogers, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, James and Ida (Barron) Graham; Mabel was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Russell (1989); sisters, Vivian in infancy and Nellie Loomer; brothers-in-law, Roscoe Loomer; Ralph, Claude, and Burnell Schofield; son-in-law, Peter Skelhorn. Many thanks to the nurses and care workers of the V.O.N., who took such great care of her, also to Valerie Hiltz. Special thanks to Eugene “Weiner” Gray and Morris King who went out of their way to make sure everyone got in the front door of her complex to visit or look after her. Arrangements are under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, B0N 2T0. A private family service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 11/2016, at Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. The Rev. Gail Whalen Dunn officiated. Donations in memory of Mabel were requested to be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Lockhartville/Stoney Hill Baptist Church.
