He was a son of the late Sylvester and Frances (LeBlanc) Doucette. At times larger than life, Alvin had an incredible personality. There really was nothing he couldn’t do, and he was everyone’s go to guy. A master carpenter, who’s career spanned over 50 years. He started at the young age of 15, working with his father on houses and general carpentry. Throughout the course of his career he worked for Louie Donald Construction Company in Petawawa, Ontario. Once back in Nova Scotia, he worked building Lighthouses with Vince Babin and building Texaco Service Stations as Supervisor with Herald Arenburg. Shortly after, he worked as a general supervisor and project manager for Stevens and Fiske in Halifax for almost 15 years. He was extremely proud of the fact that he owned and operated his own construction companies, A&M Construction and Oak Construction, for over 11 years. Missing home at age 58 he decided to move back to Wedgeport where he worked for Yarmouth Housing as a supervisor. He retired in 2003. A proud father and husband, Alvin faced the loss of his only son Allan in 1991, and his first wife Mae in 1999. Alvin was fortunate enough to find love a second time and married Geraldine (D’Eon) Cottreau in 2004. He is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine (D’Eon) Doucette; daughter, Agnes (Ian) Flinn, Greenfield; stepdaughter, Stacey (Wayne) Blanchard, Wedgeport; stepson, Myron (Sarah Crnec) Cottreau, Victoria, B.C.; siblings, Catherine (Joseph) Doucette, Wedgeport; Delphis (Shirley) Doucette, Rockville; Paul (Donna) Doucette, Wedgeport; Gerald Doucette, Wedgeport; he will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Ryan and Carley.
