It is with the heaviest of hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of John Henry Jackson, 73, of Sydney Mines, on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the Northside General Hospital, after a strong and courageous battle with a lengthy illness.
Born in Sydney Mines on May 13, 1942, he was the son of the late Clifford and Ellen (Butts) Jackson.
Johnny was a proud coal miner, and worked for over 32 years in Princess, Lingan and Prince mines. He greatly enjoyed bowling, darts and golf, but most of all he enjoyed sharing music with his friends, and volunteering to entertain at the local hospitals and guest homes, to help bring a smile and brighten someone’s day.
Johnny leaves behind his loving companion, Jeannie McGean; his four children, Brenda (Peter Roberts), Tim (Doris), Marvin, and Jolene (Brian LeBlanc); nine grandchildren, John, Ellie, Josh, Chris, Jake, Wyatt, Jeremy, Megan and Matthew, and eight great-grandchildren. He will also be forever loved and missed by his sisters, Violet Gove, Sheila (Jim) LeBlanc, Sandra (Brian) May and June (Blake) Hawkins; brothers, Clifford 'Kippy’ (Lorraine), Wayne (Dee Dee) and Terry (Lorna) Banks, along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
Besides his parents, Johnny was predeceased by Jane Tremblett, from his first marriage, Anna (Lewis), from his second marriage; companion, Annette (Nettie) Forrest; his beautiful sister, Deborah Barry; brother-in-law, Dennis Barry and sister-in-law, Judith Jackson.
At his request, there will be no visitation. A celebration of his life will take place Monday, March 14, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Carman United Church, Clyde Avenue, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. A reception will be held in the Sydney Mines Pensioners' Club, following the service.
Donations in Johnny’s memory may be made to the Northside Hospital Foundation, or the Cape Breton Cancer Center.
