We, the family of Bertha Kanarie, 90, are saddened to announce her sudden passing on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Capstick, Victoria County, on Sept. 7, 1925, she was the daughter of the late W.J. Duncan and Margaret M. (MacDonald) Capstick.
A graduate of Normal College in Truro, she taught for 30 years in various schools in Northern Victoria County. She was active in St. Margaret’s Parish and her community.
She is survived by her son Ronald, Capstick, and daughter Pauline (Albert) Zwicker, Prime Brook; granddaughter Dr. Deborah Zwicker (Todd Clements) and great-grandson Alexander Clements. Also left to mourn are her brother Ernest (Marie) Capstick, Capstick, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Joseph Kanarie, and brothers Ronald, Dan R., and Duncan B. Capstick.
Visitation for Bertha Kanarie will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, from 12-2 p.m. in St. Margaret’s Church, St. Margaret’s Village, followed by a funeral mass celebrating her life at 2 p.m. with Fr. Lazarus Guira officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bertha’s memory may be made to St. Margaret’s Cemetery Fund, or the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation.
