Constance Etta Belle Thurber

Age 81, of Greenwood, NS, went home to be with her Lord on March 14, 2016.
Born on May 31, 1934 in Fanning Brook, PEI, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Marion (Coffin) Jay. She received her Teaching Certificate from Prince of Wales College and taught in Cherry Hill and Mount Stewart schools. Connie had a great love for her Lord and her family, putting their needs ahead of her own. She had a fondness for hymns, Southern Gospel music, and ceilidh tunes and loved listening to her parents, siblings, children, nieces and nephews sing and play a variety of instruments.
Connie is survived by eight children: sons, Gordon (Connie), Moncton; Kirk (Diane), Wilmot; Brad, Wilmot; Hal (Michelle), Bedford; daughters, Donna Potvin, Ottawa; Jayne (Peter) Smith, Virginia Beach; Roxanne, Ottawa; Daphne (Andrew) Dykeman, Saint John, and daughter-in-law, Deanna Hansen, Puyallup, WA. Connie's love extended to the next generations who brought her much joy. Grandsons, Nathan (Megen); Wayne (Aaron); Justin Potvin; David Smith; Craig Smith; Caleb; Paul Smith; Zachary Dykeman; Mason; granddaughters, Bethany (Sean) Smith; Katrina Potvin; Janette (Steven) Aldridge; Charity (Phil) Rush; Amy Dykeman; and Halee, and great-grandson, Ryland, have had their lives wonderfully enriched by ‘Grandma.' Connie is also survived by brothers, Allison (Marg); Allan (Shirley); sisters, Eileen (Lawson) Drake; Muriel Matheson (Roly); Miriam (Roddie) MacLean; Cynthia (Mearl) Crane; as well as 16 cherished nieces and nephews.
Connie was predeceased by an infant brother, daughter Valerie, son, Troy, and former husband, Byard Thurber.
Visitation will be March 17, 2016 from 5- 8 p.m. at the Hillsboro Funeral Home, 2 Hollis Ave., Stratford, PEI, (902-569-5689). Funeral service will be held March 18, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Stratford Chapel, Hillsboro Funeral Home, with Rev. Gordon Thurber officiating. Interment will be in Mount Stewart People's Cemetery. Reception to follow at Mount Stewart United Church Hall.
Donations in memory may be made to The Gideon's International Canada or Mount Stewart People's Cemetery.
