Passed on: March 12th, 2016

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sarah Mae Doucette at the age of 81. She passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by family and friends on March 12, 2016.
Sarah was born in Whycocomagh, the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Julia (Bernard) Stevens.
Her calling in life was to love all children that came into her life. Her home was open and welcoming to all ages over the years and were treated no differently from her own. She was affectionately known as Nanny to everyone. Her beautiful smile along with her genuine care and concern made her job as a teacher’s aide for the Eskasoni School Board seem easy. It brought her happiness and satisfaction to know she was given the opportunity to become a part of her student’s lives and learning throughout her career. She loved and remembered them all fondly even after her retirement. Sarah was involved in many community events and was a member of Cursillo Movement and the School and Health Boards. She made the annual pilgrimage to St. Anne De Beaupre, Chapel Island and Quebec.
She is survived by her loving, caring and devoted husband of 33 years, Abraham Doucette; her children, Jermaine Doucette (PJ), Stephen J. Sylliboy, Julia Gale (Michael), Bernadette Sylliboy (Allan), Thomas Sylliboy (Frances), Juanita Sylliboy (Johnny), Jacqueline Sylliboy, Elaine Sylliboy, Kathleen Sylliboy, Gabriella Sylliboy, Marla Sylliboy and Keegan Sylliboy, stepchildren, Vernon Doucette (Norma), Gail T. She was predeceased by her daughter, Catherine Jean Gould (Charlie); her son, Reginald Sylliboy (Vera) and her stepchildren, Norman Doucette, John Doucette, Pamela Doucette and Keith Doucette.
