It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joan Marie (Meuse) Babin, age 76, announces her passing on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 in the Treasured Memories Boarding Home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Amirault's Hill on December 10, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Lévi and Antoinette (LeBlanc) Muise. In her earlier years, Joan worked as a hairdresser at the Powder Puff salon and often spoke of how she loved her work and her customers. She enjoyed baking, shopping, doing puzzles, knitting and watching classic movies, especially "Gone with the Wind" and listening to music of days gone by such as the "Sentimental Journey" radio program. She was a woman of strong faith and she greatly cherished her LDS church family and friends. Joan adored her 4 grandchildren and they in return loved their "Grand-Mère" and will miss her hugs. Her giving and kind ways were known by all who knew her. She leaves behind her sons, Guy (Elaine); and grand-children, Noah and Émilie, Cole Harbour; Gilles (Denise), and grand-children, Joséphine and Noel, Lower Eel Brook; brother, Alain Meuse, Yarmouth; step-mother, Cécile Muise; and brother, Wayne (Rose) Muise, Amirault's Hill; uncle, Basil (Jeanette) LeBlanc, Franklin, MA; aunt, Pauline Smith, Braintree, MA; sisters-in-law, Rita (Ernest) Deveau, Annette (Victor) Dugas, Anne (Joe) Dodman; as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Émile in 2010; sister, Phyllis; and brother-in-law, Donald Pothier; and nephew, Steve Pothier. The family would like to thank the oncology team at YRH, the VON, Yarmouth Argyle Support Services, Shelley Reardon and all the staff at Treasured Memories Boarding Home for all their wonderful care and support over the past few years, as well as her medical team who cared for her throughout her illness. Funeral arrangements were under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth where visitation was held on Thursday, March 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the funeral home in Yarmouth. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m on Friday, March 18 at Saint Anne`s Catholic Church, Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau, Father Albénie d`Entremont and Rob Veinot, Branch President of LDS Church, Yarmouth officiated. Burial followed in Ste. Anne's cemetery. Donations may be made in Joan's memory to the Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund, the LDS Yarmouth Branch Relief Society or to a charity of your choice.
