George Douglas "Doug" Youden

Born: April 4th, 1938

Passed on: March 16th, 2016

Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family after a brief illness, Doug Youden Sr. was 3 weeks shy of his 78th birthday. Predeceased by his parents George and Winifred and brother David, he leaves to mourn his loving wife of 54 years Mary (O'Leary), his sister June in Lower Sackville, NS (Edward, deceased), sons Douglas (Jackie); Paul (Pam); Greg (Heather) and daughters Anne-Marie (John) and Christine. He also leaves behind the other true joys in his life, his 11 grandchildren; Courtney, Cameron, Shawna, Josh, Melanie, Robyn, Kyle, Greg, Laura, Mark and Alex as well as a large number of nieces and nephews and a large number of friends at Bishop Meadon Manor. Doug spent his working life in various service related industries starting with Canada Packers, his own merchandising company D&M Wholesale and convenience store - Doug's. After officially retiring he continued in the service industry while working with Ches's Fish and Chips and Newfound Cabs. He was a true ambassador in providing exceptional customer service to others. For the past 12 years he and Mary have longed for the start of the May 24th weekend so that they could head up to their beloved retreat at Gushue's Pond and to spend time with all their friends in the "Nut Hut"! He also loved the time he spent playing with his precious grandchildren, no matter how young or old they were. Special thanks to the medical and nursing staff of St. Clare's Hospital, especially the 6th floor, for their caring and exceptional support during Doug's brief but very challenging illness. Visitation hours are 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Friday, March 18 and Saturday March 19, 2016 at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue. Cremation will take place afterwards. Funeral service will take place on Monday March 21, 2016 at 2 pm at Barrett's Funeral Chapel, 328 Hamilton Avenue, with internment at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on Topsail Road. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Children's' Wish Foundation or to a charity of one's choice.
