MacIntosh, Avis Thelma – Truro
It is with great sadness that the family of Avis Thelma MacIntosh announce her passing on March 18, 2016 at Shannex Vimy Court after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimers. Avis was born in The Falls, Colchester County on May 15, 1921, to the late Wilson and Annie (Tattrie) Upham and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Avis spent her childhood years on the family farm in The Falls, later moving to Truro with her new husband, Johnnie, where she lived for the rest of her life. Avis was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a kind, gentle lady with a good sense of humour who loved her family dearly. Her happiest times were those spent with family and friends. Avis was a homemaker who kept many boarders in her home over the years. She always enjoyed feeding people and was an excellent cook and baker. She was known for her delicious apple pie and homemade biscuits. Avis was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Truro, where she spent some years as a Sunday school teacher. Avis is survived by her son, Darrell (Mary Lou) MacIntosh; grandsons, Corey (Abe), Hollywood, California, Jeffrey, Vancouver, BC; several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her grand-dog “Cub”. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Johnnie MacIntosh; sisters, Pearl Upham, Alberta (Joe) Johnson and Jean (Norman) Munroe. Avis’ family would like to thank her special cousin, Florence Shearer who lived with Avis in her home for three years, Truro VON staff, personal caregivers, Kaye Weir and Shirley Kurivial, the staff of both Williams Country Homes and Shannex Vimy Court, who attended to her every need, with great kindness and caring.
