Duane Farnel

Passed on: March 16th, 2016

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Duane Farnel at the age of 69 on March 16, 2016 after a brief illness. Duane was born on October 8, 1946 to Sylvia and Harvey Farnel. He spent his childhood in Tuxford, SK with his younger sister Myrna. Although he really couldn’t see reason to start school as he didn’t need to read or write to fulfill his ambition in life to be a rancher, he completed his elementary grades in Tuxford and continued his education at St. Louis College in Moose Jaw. After a brief marriage and a move to Alberta in the early 1970’s, Duane returned to Saskatchewan and eventually fulfilled his life-long dream, purchasing a farm in the Chaplin area. This was the area he would live out his days as a hardworking rancher. Duane valued his independence, his privacy and his solitary life. He loved cartoon movies, reading and nothing was better than a “good deal” at an auction sale. He served as Reeve for his RM, was a member of the Chaplin Library Board and the Chaplin Seniors Group. Duane enjoyed working and showing heavy horses with Wayne Cozart, trail riding and had even tried his hand as a wheelwright. He loved to push your buttons, but not in a mean spirited way, and he will be greatly missed by his niece Michelle (Murad, Serra and Tariq), brother-in-law Bill (Agnes), numerous cousins and relatives and close friend Ian (Rhonda, Samuel and Wilson). A Memorial Service will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel, Moose Jaw, on Thursday March 24, 2016 at 2pm. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate. Donations can be made in Duane’s memory to STARS Air Ambulance or the Chinook Regional Library – Chaplin Branch. In living memory of Duane, a memorial planting will be made by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
