It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ronald A. Read age 76 of Gables Lodge and formerly of 20 Costin Drive, Amherst, announce his passing on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Dorchester Cape, NB he was a son of the late John and Ida (Buck) Read.
Ron worked at Enterprise Foundry in Sackville for many years and later was a truck driver for Beal and Inch and Costin’s Paving and Contracting.
He loved spending time with his family, playing cards, listening to bluegrass and old country music, enjoyed dancing in his younger years and recently with the nurses and caregivers at Gables Lodge.
Ron loved his pets dogs Buttercup and Stacey.
He is survived by one daughter Gail Read of Amherst, one son David (Anna Staples) of Truro, NS, 4 grandchildren Joey and Bradley Read and Cory and Jason DeWitt, great grandson Ayden Read.
Ron is also survived by sisters Barbara O’Neill of Stewiacke, NS, Ella Sears and, Shirley McCarthy both of Sackville, NB, Cheryl Read of Moncton, NB, Susan (Don) Wheatley of Edmonton, AB and Bonnie (Roger) Blanchard of Sackville, NB as well as Ron’s brother in law and friend Artie (Sylvia) Noiles and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife the former Agnes Noiles, grandson Christopher, one brother Buddy, sister Gertrude Wilson and step mother Mary Read.
At Ron’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations in Ron’s memory may be made to the L.A. Animal Shelter or the charity of your choice.
A special thank you goes to the nurses and caregivers and Gables Lodge and the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit of Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
