83, New Minas, NS, died peacefully March 17, 2016 at home with his family. He was born in Joe Batt's Arm, Fogo Island, NL in 1933, a son of the late James and Elsie Freake. He is survived by his wife Joan, children Ian and Ingrid, grandchildren Patrick and Lauren and his brother Arthur. He was predeceased by his brothers Charles, Jabez, and Harvey. He graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland, with a B.A., and subsequently a B.Ed. Over his 34 year teaching career he taught at various schools throughout Newfoundland including Woody Island, Portugal Cove, Glenwood, Botwood, Bishop Falls and Lewisporte, retiring in 1986. He moved to Nova Scotia in 1996 to be near family, returning to Newfoundland, and particularly Fogo Island, each summer. A private family burial will take place in Newfoundland at a later date. The family wish to thank the members of the Annapolis Valley Health, the VON and a special thank you is extended to Darlene. Donations in memory may be made to the Lung Association or the Red Cross.
