It is with deep sadness and much regret that we announce the peaceful passing of Bradley Spencer Dillon on March 24, 2016.
Brad was born on May17, 1943 to parents William and Leah (Buckland) Dillon.
Upon graduation from Morrison Glace Bay High, he worked for a brief time at Sydney Steel before moving to Toronto where he became a member of the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force serving 39 years until his retirement in 2005 when he returned to his hometown of Glace Bay. As a member of the force he worked in the equestrian division, the B and E department, and undercover in the investigative department.
Brad is survived by daughters, Leah Dawn (Clarke) and Taralynn and by son, Chad and three grandchildren, Shayla, Jadyn and Colton all of Milton, Ont., as well as brothers, Melvyn (Carol), Perth, Ont., James (Elaine), Glace Bay; sisters, Carolyn (Campbell), Glace Bay and Paulette (Jolley), Reserve Mines. Brad is also survived by his companion, Sylvia Whyte and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Brad was predeceased by his former wife, Heather (MacDonald) Dillon; brother, Augustus Dillon and by his special aunt, Lillian Buckland and uncle, John Dillon.
A visitation will be held at Patten’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with the funeral service to be held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 2 p.m. with interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Maple Avenue in Glace Bay. Reception to follow the service in the foyer of the church.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Drs. MacLean, Kodagoda, Harliss, and Ritter for their quick and professional treatment of Brad during this difficult time. Many, many thanks to the nurses and care givers of home care, palliative care and VON units who made it possible for Brad to remain at home during his final days and hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to palliative care, St. Mary’s Church, Glace Bay or a charity of one’s choice.
