Surrounded by his loved ones Marvin Terry Newman, known by the Islanders as “Junie” (Jr.), of Deer Island has gone to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness.
Born in Lubec, Maine on September 26, 1936, he was raised on Campobello Island, NB by his parents Terry and Arlene (Fitzsimmons) Newman. After serving in the Canadian Armed Forces, Marvin began his career as a fisherman, also working on pilot & tugboats in Saint John NB; he was in charge of the trial runs for the Preserver & Provider Naval Ships. He was a Sea Captain & Millwright and the owner & operator of Deer Island Sea Urchins Ltd.
He is survived by his loving wife Jeanette (Melanson); Children; Jo’ Anne (Réal) Pelletier, Terrance (Marjorie) Newman & Jason Newman; Sisters; Agnes Sobles, Elmina Johnston (Hazen); Brothers Harry (Mary) Newman & Dexter (Debbie) Newman; sisters-in-law Josephine Sonier & Joan Smith; Brothers-in-law John Melanson & Paul (Mary) Melanson; Grandchildren Tara Newman, Marianne Rosal, Adam Stephenson, Skye & Tanner Tibbetts; Great-grandchildren Audrina & Dominic Mischuk, Storm & Damon Parent, Isabelle Pelletier-Gormley, Everleigh, Nevaeh & Hudson Tibbetts; Special nephew Lowell (Anna) Newman; Special cousins Jim (Muriel) Carr; many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
Predeceased by his parents, sisters Virginia Lord, Winnie Rose Summerville & Yvonne Wilkins, Brother Clifford (Norma) Newman and brother-in-law Gerald Melanson.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) on Sunday March 27, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. and at Lord’s Cove Church of Christ, Deer Island on Monday March 28, 2016 from 12 to 4 p.m. The funeral service will follow at Lord’s Cove Church of Christ, Deer Island at 4 p.m. Interment will take place in Calder’s Head Cemetery, Deer Island followed by a reception at the church.
