ELSIE JEAN ADKINS (nee AMOS)

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Elsie on March 24 after a short illness. She was born in Moose Jaw, November 28, 1922 and attended Prince Arthur School, Central and Peacock Collegiate. Elsie worked as a secretary until her marriage to John (Jack) Adkins in 1951. Elsie was an active member of Zion United Church for many years, as well as being involved in Nature Moose Jaw, and the Moose Jaw and District Senior Citizens Association. She enjoyed walking / hiking, camping, canoeing, swimming and skating, as well as “birding” in Wakamow and at Buffalo Pound Lake. She was active in all these activities into her eighty’s. Mom knit several afghans for family and friends that will be cherished. Mom was predeceased by husband Jack (John) Adkins in August of 2010; her parents; and, three brothers (Ernie, Don and Doug). She is survived by: son Philip (Merle) and family- granddaughter Erin Hewitt (Gord), and great grandchildren Avery and Logan Hewitt, all of Moose Jaw, and grandson Ryan Adkins of Saskatoon; and, son Glen (Diane) and family - grandchildren Drew Adkins (Melissa) and great grandson Kingston, and Amy and Brett Adkins, all of Red Deer; and, several nieces and nephews, including Carol (Bill) Lee of Barrhead, AB. Garth Hampson of Ottawa was a special “cousin” to Elsie. A family graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Providence Place Foundation, 100 2nd Ave. N.E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1B8 would be appreciated. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Providence Place, St. Anthony’s Wing, for their loving care of Elsie over the last four years. Special thanks to Dr. Yolanda Marx for her exceptional care and attention to Mom. The Medical Unit staff at our new hospital provided extraordinary care, in a wonderful facility, for Elsie and the family in her last days. In living memory of Elsie, a memorial planting will be made by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
