Emily Scholten

SCHOLTEN, EMILY JANE
It is with great sadness the family announces the death of Emily Jane Scholten, who passed away peacefully with family by her side at Rocmaura Nursing Home, on March 28, 2016. Born in Saint John on July 2, 1968 to the late Peter Sr. and Wilhelmina (Derks) Scholten.
Emily is predeceased by her parents Wilhelmina (Miep) and father Peter Sr.
Emily is survived by her siblings Gerry Scholten (Pamela) of Saint John, Peter Scholten Jr. (Sharon) of Florenceville, Carla Scholten (Timothy Crowell) of Ste. Croix, N.S., Rose Magleave (Mark) of Grand Bay-Westfield, Ben Scholten (Mary Ellen) of Rothesay, Ted Scholten (Kathleen) of Fort Frances Ont, and Christine MacDonald (Ian) of Toronto, 14 nieces and nephews, three great-nieces and great-nephews, and “favorite uncle”, Arnold Derks.
Emily was a graduate of Simonds High School. She was a 17 year dedicated employee with the City of Saint John working as Mail Clerk as well as a participant at Key Industries for two years.
Anyone with the privilege of meeting Emily would know her outgoing personality, charm and embracing smile enabled her to break down barriers and put people at ease. Emily led a full life participating in a variety of interests including dancing, karaoke, bingo, and board games. She was an enthusiastic fan of music, wrestling, sports and all pop culture. A full participant in life, her competitive spirit came out as she was an accomplished swimmer and bowler. She was fiercely independent and through the encouragement of her proud parents and family; she had, and perceived no limits.
Emily received exceptional care at Rocmaura Nursing Home the past few years. We are comforted to know that she is now with her Mom and Dad, free of Alzheimer’s able to dance again.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Family will receive friends on Thursday morning, March 31, 2016 from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Funeral service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday 10 a.m. followed by a light reception. Private family interment to take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations in Emily’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Rocmaura Nursing Home, or the Saint John Association for Community Living.
