JANES, WALTER ANTHONY "TONY"
With heavy hearts, the family of Walter Janes announces his passing, which occurred on March 30th, 2016, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Tony was born in Saint John on October 7, 1955; a son of the late Gordon and Evelyn (Burke) Janes, and the loving husband of Valerie (Button) Janes.
Walter spent his formative years in Amesbury, Massachusetts, was a pipefitter at Saint John Shipbuilding for many years, and a very proud member of Local 213, Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He will be remembered as a talented musician who entertained many a crowd, playing guitar in his band Woody’s Garage, and was an encyclopedia of rock and roll history. When he was not playing with the band, Walter loved watching his beloved Bruins, Patriots, and the Red Sox.
Left to mourn are his wife Valerie, daughter Amy and son Keith (Jessica), all of Saint John, granddaughters who were the lights of his life Emily and Amelia, aunts Merne Fitzgerald of Nova Scotia, Winnie Janes and Mary Hanley, brother-in-law Edward Cardone, along with many nieces, nephews, special friends, and the guys from Woody’s Garage.
In addition to his parents, Walter was pre-deceased by his step-mother, Berthina “Bert” Janes, brothers Gary and Gordon, and sisters Laurie Ann and Ellen (“Gay”).
The family will receive friends at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating Tony’s life will be held from Forest Hills Baptist Church on Saturday, April 2nd at 10:00. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery immediately following the service.
For those who wish, remembrances to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, or the East Saint John Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.
