LEBLANC, J. Walter, Age 99 of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully in Yarmouth on Tuesday, March 29th at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Yarmouth, N.S. on January 25, 1917, son of the late Peter LeBlanc and Regina Amirault. He was proud to serve in the Second World War as a bombardier flying in Lancasters over Germany. He was a retired letter carrier with Canada Post. Walter was a long serving and dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and the Yarmouth Gardening Club. Golf was one of his many joys and his final tournament was at the ripe old age of 97. As a proud Yarmouthian he never lost an opportunity to promote his beloved town. He was well known as an ambassador for Yarmouth. His Begonias were a frequent stop for tourists and he was commonly known as the Begonia Man. He was also passionate about fundraising for various causes especially the Yarmouth Hospital which he continued to support into his late 90’s. Walter lived his life to the fullest. His love of God, Country, Yarmouth, family and gardening defined him. He is survived by daughters Jill Ford (Bob), Dartmouth, N.S., Meredith Robbins (David), Ottawa and Susan Stuart; brother Robert LeBlanc, Ontario; sons-in-law Ron Coles and Herbert d’Eon; grandchildren Chris Risley, Jason Risley, Kara Risley – Champion (Jen), Daryl Robbins, Erin Robbins, Darren Coles, Nicole d’Eon (Kerry), Stephen d’Eon (Leah), Daniel d’Eon (Marcy), Jean-Paul d’Eon, Scott d’Eon, 9 great grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Jeanette, daughters Janice Coles and Sandra d’Eon, granddaughter Dawn Isenor as well as 8 brothers and sisters. The visitation was held at Huskilson’s Funeral Home on Friday, April 1st from 5pm to 7pm. A mass took place at St. Ambrose Cathedral on Saturday, April 2nd at 1 p.m., Father Henry Smolenaars officiated, followed by a reception in the Jubilee room. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of your choice. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Veterans Place who surrounded Walter with love, respect, laughter and lots of dancing.
