It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we the family announce the passing of Gerald Hastings, on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, after a courageous battle with health issues.
Born in Toronto, Ont., Gerry was the son of the late Gerald and Audrey (Harrison) Hastings.
Gerry worked in many different places throughout his life but he always talked about being a butcher, and derived from that, his great love and passion for cooking. Gerry could be found either in the kitchen cooking, or carefully watching cooking shows for new recipes and techniques.
Gerry is survived by his children, Rhonna, Cristina, Nick, and grandson Tyler. Gerry will also be lovingly remembered as 'Uncle Butch' by family and friends in Toronto, especially by his niece and five nephews. He will also be sorrowfully missed by his loving companion and best friend Darlene Lynk, and her children, Linda (Mike), Brad (Liberty), Tammy, and Kevin, and step-grandchildren, his pride and joy Lindsey, Conrad, Aiden, Carter, and Ava Lynn; also brothers, Kenneth (Ruth) and Douglas (Christine).
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by Brother Ronald.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at 11 a.m. in the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
