It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hilton Edgar Smith at the age of 85, also known as "the silver haired jogger" of Sydney, N.S.
Hilton passed peacefully with family by his side on April 1, 2016 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Hilton was predeceased by his parents Jean and Wilfred Smith, his brothers Robert 'Bob', Alvin 'Archie', Arnold 'Tardy, and sister Marva 'Sport'. He is survived by his son Darryl (Michelle) Dartmouth, N.S., his grandson Jordan (Kelsey) Dartmouth, N.S., his sisters Doris and Jean 'Audrey', Toronto, Ont. and brother George 'Dingy'(Debbie), Sydney, N.S. and his many nephews, nieces and friends.
Hilton was admired and loved by many in the community, saying hello to everyone as he jogged throughout the streets of Sydney. He served overseas in the Canadian Army, 1st Canadian Guards from 1957-1960. Hilton held a 15-5-5 boxing record while in the army.
A celebration of his life will take place in the summer of 2016.
Memorials may be made to An Cala, the palliative care unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
