With sadness, we, the family of Clarence Edwin 'Duckie' Snow, regret to announce his passing on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at his home on Upper Prince Street, Sydney. Dad died peacefully surrounded by the ones that truly loved him.
Born Feb. 15, 1926, in Sydney, Duckie was a son of the late Winnifred (Youden) Marsh and raised by his grandparents, the late John and Margaret Youden.
After 41 years of service, he retired from Sydney Steel, where he was employed as a millwright in the bar mill department. An avid sportsman, Duckie loved the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Screaming Eagles, as well as an owner of standard bred horses.
Duckie is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Mary (Follett); daughters, Gloria (Bernie) Lush, Port Hawkesbury and Beverly (Tommy) Hayes, Mira; sons, Kansas (Judy), Sydney, Larry (Darlene), Glace Bay and Jerry (Chris), Sydney; sister, Peggy (Garfield) Ross, Sydney; stepbrothers, John Marsh, Sydney and Alf Marsh, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Sis (Charlie) MacKeigan, Sydney and Jennie Follett, Placentia, Nfld.; aunt, Olive Leyte, Sydney; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his stepbrothers, Frank, Moe, Bill, Clem and Donnie Marsh.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 1-2 p.m., followed by a service in the chapel at 2 p.m., Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery with his grandmother.
Special thanks to the VON and home care for the outstanding care and compassion they provided to our husband and father. Also, thanks to Judy Follett, RN, Jennifer Lush, Cindy Aker and my amazing sister, Gloria for their amazing dedication to ensure that dad stayed at home, where he wanted to be, during his final days.
