My best friend and soulmate passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, with her family nearby. Mary is now free of her suffering of the past number of years. Diabetes has taken its toll.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Grant and Hilda Campbell
She is survived by me, Connie, her husband and the loves of her life, Paul (Muriel), Peter (Michelle) and Chris (Karol Ann); her brother and close friend, Lionel (Vivienne) also survives. Then there are our three amazing grandchildren, Connor, Kellyn and Grant, she was so proud of them!
Mary was noted for her fantastic memory. She knew thousands of birthdays, anniversaries and events. Not only those of family and friends, but total strangers she encountered. Mary might forget your name, but not your birthday. She was always interested in meeting people, both friends and strangers and learning more about them and their families. We are all going to miss her smile and dry humour. A quiet, sweet lady with a beautiful voice, she sang at many weddings, anniversaries and other events throughout her life. She also sang with local bands, including The Roy Cumming Orchestra, The Johnny Aucoin Trio, The Lamplighters and Oland’s Saturday Night on CJCB-TV. She sang with local choirs, including St. Marguerite Bourgeoys’ regular and funeral choirs for over 60 years. Now she’s singing with the choir of angels. We are so grateful to all who showed their concern for her health over the years.
Visitation for Mary Morrison will take place from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13 at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
