It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Donnie Shaw surrounded by his loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on April 11, 2016, at the age of 71.
All who knew Donnie, knew that he fought to stay with us, having more than nine lives, but this last fight he couldn’t win.
Born in Loch Lomond, on July 7, 1944, he was the youngest son of the late Kenneth and Annie (MacLeod) Shaw of Loch Lomond.
Donnie lost his father at the age of two weeks in a work related accident. His mother in later years married Edward MacLeod.

Donnie was very proud of his five children, “the bad daughter’ Deborah (Richard) MacLeod, Juniper Mtn.; son, Donald Shaw (Wanda), Dutch Brook, “the good daughter” Dale (Ron) Henneberry; son, Derrick (Karen) Shaw, Dunster, B.C.; son, David (Jenny) Shaw, Tanglewood. Donnie and Dorothy lived in Loch Lomond, for the past 43 years, Donnie was employed as a truck driver for many years, until his heart started causing him serious problems. He was a man who liked to stay busy, puttering around the yard, fixing what he could, spending time with his grandchildren, and long talks on the phone for the latest gossip from his longtime friend, Carmen MacDonald.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 7-9 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. at the Sydney River First United Church with Rev. Norma Mills officiating. Interment to follow in Loch Lomond.
