SURETTE, Josephine Marie – age 99, of Yarmouth, passed away on April 12th, 2016 in The Meadows Home For Special Care, surrounded by her family. Born on February 7th, 1917 in Little River Harbour, Josephine was a daughter of the late Anselm and Marie (Surette) Fitzgerald. Josephine was a seamstress for many years and with her golden thread and silver needles mended many hems and many hearts. She was a proud member of the Saint Ambrose Catholic Women’s League for 45 years. She enjoyed her times spent with her sisters in the league. She leaves behind many sad hearts - Johnny (Rita) Hattie, Yarmouth; Loretta (James) Moulaison, Yarmouth; Seamus (Brenda) Hattie, Yarmouth; Evelyn Miller, Taunton, Mass; Phillip Hattie, Yarmouth; Dawn (Robert) Scott, Plymouth; 12 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, John Earnest Hattie (casualty of WWII); her second husband, Gerald Rene Surette. Funeral arrangements were under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. Visitation was held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016. A funeral mass was held on Friday at 11 a.m. from Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Henry Smolenaars officiated. A burial was held in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Forest Street, Yarmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Giles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund or the Yarmouth Food Bank.
