It is with great sadness the family wish to announce the passing of their mother, grandmother and sister, Nellie Gillis on April 13, 2015 at the Maple Hill Manor surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Freddie and Mildred (Boutilier) MacKenzie.
Nellie had worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia as a teller, she was an avid card player, especially bridge and tarabish. She loved crocheting and was a great seamstress.
She is survived by sons, Gerard (Wendy), Johnny (Laura Lee); daughters, Thelma (Danny) Dowie, Colette (Robert); sisters, Charlotte (Neil) MacKenzie, Theresa Fitzpatrick and brother, Freddie (Sharon); grandchildren, Brent, Bonnie, Lauren, David, Kenzie, Tessa, Alison and Kelly.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Colin Gillis; sisters, Hilda, Evie and brother, Joseph; brothers-in-law, Bernie Gillis, Carl Campbell and John Fitzpatrick.
Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held today (Friday, April 15) from 5-9 p.m. and a funeral mass to celebrate Nellie's life will take place Saturday, April 16 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Leonard's, Mount Carmel Avenue with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment in St. Michael's Cemetery followed by a luncheon in the parish hall, Convent Street. All are welcome.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford 902-862-7500.
