Marvin Montgomery

Passed on: April 11th, 2016

Marvin Montgomery of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away on April 11, 2016, at the age of 79. Marvin was born on October 24, 1937, in Edam, SK. He was the eleventh and youngest child of William and Letitia (nee Taggart) Montgomery. At the age of three and a half, Marvin contracted whooping cough; he almost did not survive. At the age of twelve, his mother passed away. Marvin prided himself on being independent. In 1969, Marvin worked in Lanigan, and in 1972 he moved to Moose Jaw. There, he met the love of his life, Myrtle Favel and in July of 1976 they were married. Myrtle passed away on July 31, 1979. This was a tremendous loss. Marvin was employed at various workplaces around Moose Jaw, working in the kitchen at Valleyview Centre, the National Cafe and the Westwood Motor Inn. In the summer of 1980 Marvin took his first train trip to Carmen, Ontario, to visit family. He enjoyed summer vacations to visit family, playing bingo, bowling, bike riding, spending time with his friend David, having meals at local restaurants, and visiting with the staff. Marvin had a good sense of humour, was friendly, and kind. He sold his house in 2005 and moved to Temple Towers, and later to Fairford Apartments. In 2015, Marvin's health declined and he moved to the Foyer d'Youville in Gravelbourg.
Marvin is survived by his sisters Treva Blaney and Leala Arbon. Predeceased by his wife Myrtle; parents William and Letitia Montgomery; brothers Aldous, Dearl, Bruce, Willard; sisters Vera, Alta, Beulah, Wilma.
