It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Martin B. MacIsaac, age 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, on Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in North Sydney on June 11, 1927, he was the son of the late Charles and Margaret (Roach) MacIsaac.
Martin had been employed with Marine Railway in North Sydney for several years before becoming the mechanics instructor with the Canadian Coast Guard College in Westmount, where he remained until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney, an avid card player, enjoyed playing darts and bowling, fishing with his children and grandchildren and hunting. Martin had been involved for several years, with North Sydney Little League baseball.
He is survived by his wife Peggy (Maxwell) MacIsaac; his sons Allister (Edith) MacIsaac, Martin (Tracy) MacIsaac, both of North Sydney, Darrell (Leona) MacIsaac, Sydney Mines; by his daughters Diane (Lloyd) Gillis, Cecilia (Willis) Ayres, Maureen (David) Devoe, all of North Sydney, Sharon (Eric) MacLeod of Sydney Mines; by his son-in-law Wayne King, New Glasgow, daughter-in-law Mary Lou Burt, North Sydney; by his 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; by his sister Patsy (Elmer) Clark, Sydney Mines and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Martin was predeceased by his son Roddie MacIsaac, his daughter Martina King, his brothers Stephen MacIsaac, Henry MacIsaac, Charles MacIsaac and sisters Ellen Arthur, Elizabeth Harrie, Mildred MacIsaac, Kathleen Aikens, Sara MacIsaac, Jenny Mull, Thelma Doyle and Cecilia Lahey.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at St. Joseph Church North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
