It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David ‘Cash’ Yates, on Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, after a brief illness with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was 61 years old.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Theresa (Doyle) and the late David Yates.
He was a former member of St. Anthony Church, Glace Bay. In Cash’s earlier years, he was employed by the Town Street Department in Glace Bay. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, especially Johnny Cash and Elvis and watching hockey. Cash was an avid Leaf fan, he loved animals and will be missed by his dog, Teko. He was well liked by all who knew him.
Cash is survived by his loving son, Cody, at home; brothers, Brian and Derek, Glace Bay, Allister and Bradley, Ontario; sister, Beverley, Glace Bay; nieces, Brittany (Jordan), Donkin, Lyndsey (Johnny), Calgary; nephew, Brandon, Glace Bay and one grandniece, Camryn.
Cash was predeceased by his father, David in 2014 and a brother, Lorne in 1964.
In honoring Cash’s wishes cremation has taken place. Arrangements are under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home , 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Interment will be held at a later date in St. Anthony Cemetery. Family will be receiving friends and neighbours on April 19, 2016 at Cash’s mother's home on 39 International St., Glace Bay.
