Phyllis Cipolla

Cipolla, Phyllis -81, Valley, passed away April 20, 2016 surrounded by her loving children and daughter in law in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Phyllis was born May 26,1934 in Victoria Vale to the late Albert and Bernice (Nixon) Mosher. Phyllis attended a one room school house in Victoria Vale from primary to grade 7. She graduated from Middleton Regional High school in 1951. Further academic pursuits included a B.Sc. from Acadia in 1954 and a B.Ed. from Mount Saint Vincent in 1968. Phyllis began her teaching career at Oxford Regional High. She held many jobs throughout her early teaching life, including positions at Truro Junior High, Hants West Rural High and supply teaching at Hants North, Edgehill and Crichton Park in Dartmouth. From 1968 – 70, Phyllis taught at the Edmonton Correspondence School Board. Later, when she moved to Truro, she supply taught in various schools in the area. A career change after her children were older, had Phyllis work with the N.S. Department of Agriculture and Marketing, Taste of Nova Scotia and several Agricultural Commodity Boards. Phyllis married Joseph Cipolla (deceased) in 1958. She had a son Paul Frederick (died at three months) and is survived by her children and spouses; Ann Cipolla Zarycky (Jerry), Robert Cipolla (Nicole); grandchildren- Lilianna Zarycky, Jenna Cipolla and Tyler Cipolla. Phyllis also leaves her very special adopted families; Joann and Frank Cory, Teklay and Abeba Zeru Messele, Hagos, Wegen, Lidya and Abel Messele. Phyllis’ life was a testament to love, peace and compassion. She was a lifelong learner, an engaged, fun and loyal friend and family member. Promoting inclusivity and equity in her many interests and pastimes, Phyllis was a long time member of the Multicultural Association and a member of many churches. Much to her friends and families delight, she was a phenomenal cook, at one time teaching international cooking with her husband. Her passions were her grandchildren, reading and travel. Winters in Portugal and Mexico, celebrating events and parties with family and friends and experimenting with cooking and dining out brought her great joy. With her many cherished friends, Phyllis could often be found attending plays and concerts and playing in the dirt! (gardening). Visitation will be held on Monday, April 25 from 6-8pm with a Memorial Service on Tuesday, April 26 at 2pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, N.S. B2N 5H2 (902-895-5587). Interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton, Annapolis Co. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society, the Alzheimer’s Society, the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Nova Scotia and Children with Aids in Ethiopia.
