It is with broken hearts that we the family announce the passing of Kenneth Marchand, age 64, on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney on July 2, 1951 he was the son of the late Bert and Mable (Burt) Marchand.
He was employed at Sydney Steel open hearth department for 32 years as a crane operator. Kenny’s passions were hunting, fishing and loved spending time in his favourite place Malagawatch. He was also a lover of music and a talented musician that loved to sing and play his guitar for family and friends.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Betty (Carroll), his two daughters, Kim (Jason Casagrande), Christine (Neil Mooney), his sister, Donna (Clifford Cox), brother, Jerry (Michaleen) all of Sydney; his three grandchildren, who were his pride and joy whom he loved dearly, Justin, Breanna and Riley. He also leaves behind his extended Carroll family, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Roy Jr. in infancy and Bertram Roy in 2004.
Ken faced his illness with great strength and courage and treasured his last days spent with family and friends by his side. He expressed his thanks for the special care he received from the nurses and staff of 4D and Palliative care at the CBRH, especially Mary Ruth Vassallo-Joseph, his family physician Dr. MacKillop and palliative care physician Dr. Abboud.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday, April 25, 2016 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 12-3:30 p.m. with a celebration of life to follow at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel with Fr. Everett McDow officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care unit of the CBRH or Red Cross.
