Stevens, Fred Sylbert ~ It is with saddened hearts that the family announces the passing of Fred Stevens, age 88 of Poplar Grove, Hants Co., on Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, with his family by his side. Born on December 24, 1927, in Poplar Grove, he was the son of the late Edwin and Viva (Withrow) Stevens. Fred was a carpenter by trade, working all his life building homes, churches and also fine cabinetry until his retirement. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, the former Mildred Benedict; sons, Eddy, Lantz; Kevin (Carman), Musquodoboit; Mark at home; daughters, Elva (Gary) Lunn, Poplar Grove; Mabel (Mike) Smith, Poplar Grove; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Fred was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by his brother, Maxwell; and an infant sister Mabel. There was no visitation or formal funeral service. Arrangements were under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, P.O. Box 2218, 194 King Street, Windsor, B0N 2T0. Family and friends were all welcomed to attend a graveside service at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Stanley, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2016. The Rev. Kevin Cox officiated. Following the service a time of fellowship and sharing was held at the family home, Poplar Grove. Family flowers only, donations in memory of Fred were requested to be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
