Kenneth Thomas

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our cherished husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. Ken Thomas, aged 61 years, passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his parents Gordon and Muriel Thomas. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are his wife Darlene; daughter Jennifer; son Greg; brothers Jeff (Candy), children Colin and Mitchell; Rob (Pam), daughter Noelle Thomas-Kennell; and Gord (Donna), children Marcus and Allan and a large extended family along with many friends from many different circles. Ken achieved his Bachelor of Commerce from Memorial University in 1977. He ran the family business, Henry J. Thomas & Son (Thomas Glass) for many years before taking on new challenges in Vancouver, BC. This is where he felt he should invest in his golf skills. Anybody that played with Ken knows that the best choice he made in golf was to get some lessons. And as we know, he married his instructor. Ken introduced Darlene to Woody Point and they knew they'd found their home. Since 2008, Ken and Darlene have established a world class accommodation business helping the community of Woody Point to become a favorite travel destination for tourists from all over the world. Darlene would always say even though Ken lived in a small town in NL, she was so happy he kept in touch with Jenn and Greg, who lived in Victoria and Edmonton, every chance he could. Ken enjoyed being involved in community service and had many achievements with his involvement with Woody Point Town Council as Mayor, (following in his grandfather's footsteps who was the first Mayor of Woody Point). He was also very active with Kiwanis, Boy Scouts of Canada, St. John's Ambulance and other various community-minded initiatives. He had a very strong passion for curling, representing Newfoundland and Labrador on numerous occasions including a Canada Games, three Briers and a National Seniors' Championship. Visitation at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Sunday, April 24 and Monday, April 25, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to be held on Tuesday, April 26, at 11:00 a.m., from St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome any donations in Ken's memory to the Town of Woody Point Beautification Project". Cheques can be made payable to Town of Woody Point, PO Box 100, Woody Point, NL. A0K-1P0. To send messages of condolences or to sign the memorial guestbook, please visit www.carnells.com
