GORMAN, JOHN JOSEPH
John Joseph Gorman, P. Eng. of Miramichi, NB, passed away on Sunday, April 24th, 2016 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. John was born October 21st, 1936 in Saint John, NB. He was the youngest son of the late John Gorman and Katherine (McCann).
He is survived by his beloved daughters, Coleen (Khalil Asal) of Fredericton, Christine (Brad Simser) of Sudbury, ON and Lorie Gorman of Fredericton as well as his grandchildren, Oliver, Madeleine, Sadie, Andrew, and Fiona who brought so much joy to his life. He is also survived by his brother, Tom Gorman of Fredericton and sister, Jean (Peter Campbell) of Winnipeg, MB; as well as his many nieces and nephews from the Gorman and McArdle clans.
John was predeceased by his ex-wife, Janet Gorman (McArdle) and his sister-in-law, Rosemary Gorman (Enos).
A graduate of the University of New Brunswick in Civil Engineering, Class of 1959, John practiced engineering at NB Department of Transportation until he took a detour into property appraising, starting his own business, A.E.S. Consultants Ltd., in 1974. He continued to run his business until his passing and had no plans to retire. He enjoyed working at his offices in Miramichi and Bathurst alongside his dedicated, long serving team who included Fred Elhatton and Miranda Holmes.
John led a life full of successful athletic pursuits which included baseball, basketball, tennis, golf and curling. He loved sports and was an excellent sportsman. He made many great friends from his years as an athlete. In his later life, he was a familiar sight on the sidelines, watching first his daughters then his grandchildren follow in his footsteps.
Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York St., Fredericton, on Wednesday, April 27th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Dunstan's Catholic Church on Thursday, April 28th, 2016 at 12:05 pm with Fr. Bill Brennan as celebrant.
Donations in John's memory may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Canada or a charity of the donor’s choice.
