RHODENIZER, Laurence “Blair” – age 87, South Berwick, Kings Co. It is with saddened hearts that the family announce his passing at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on Saturday, April 23, 2016. He was born on April 10, 1929, in Parkdale, Lunenburg Co., the son of the late Ira and Ethel (Wentzell) Rhodenizer. Blair received his early education in Parkdale, and worked for the Dept. of Lands and Forests before joining the R.C.A.F. in 1951. He was stationed at various bases in Canada and in Germany. Blair married Jocelyn Sarty in 1954, and they had three children. He retired in 1971 and the family relocated to Berwick. Woodworking was his hobby. Blair was a Cub leader for 35 years and a member of the Berwick & District Volunteer Fire Department for 32 years. To his family and community he was “Mr. Fix-It”. Blair was “Baloo/Akela” to the Cubs and “Candyman” to the Sunday School children. He was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church and Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick. Mourning his passing are Jocelyn, his wife of 61 years; sons, Brian (Nancy) and Kenneth (JoAnn); daughter, Faye (Stephen Grant); special daughter, Carol Rhodenizer; grandsons, Mark and Michael (Linda) Rhodenizer; Matthew (Carly), Brandon (Stephanie) and Christopher Grant; Jonathan and Andrew Rhodenizer; granddaughter, Emma Rhodenizer; great grandchildren, Annabelle and Walker Grant; sisters, Lucy (Gerry) Charlebois and Merna (Robert) Cox; brother, Robert (Marlean) Rhodenizer; plus many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Marjorie Hebb, brothers, Lee and Alonzo Rhodenizer. There was no visitation. The Memorial Service followed by a reception took place at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 30, in Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick. Pastor Isaac Russell officiated with Youth Pastors Kayla and Evan Colford assisting. Interment was in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to the Berwick Baptist Church, Berwick & District Volunteer Fire Department or charity of choice. Much appreciation is expressed to the VON girls and the staff at Valley Regional Hospital for the excellent care he received.
