Shaffer, Hilda Marie
1933-2016
Hilda Marie (Lyman) Shaffer of Riverview, NB, passed away peacefully at The Salvation Army Lakeview Manor, on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the age of 83 years.
Born in West River, NB, she was the daughter of the late Murray and Carrie (Colburn) Lyman. Hilda was a graduate of Riverside Consolidated School in 1949. Her first employment was with the T. Eaton Co. and she ended her working career at Woolco in 1991.
She was an active Life Member of the Winston Churchill Chapter # 19 O.E.S. and served as Worthy Matron numerous times as well as holding various offices in the Chapter. She was Past Grand Representative of Nova Scotia and PEI, served as Worthy Grand Matron in 1992 -1993 of the Grand Chapter of NB, as well as other Grand Chapter Offices. General Grand Chapter Committee member from 2003 - 2006 of the General Grand Chapter. She was a member of Nereides Temple Daughters of the Nile #78. Hilda enjoyed bowling with the Hillsborough Mixed League. She and her husband Clinton travelled extensively visiting Hawaii, California, Florida, and several Countries in Europe. Together they met many people within the Order of The Eastern Star throughout Canada and the U.S.A.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years Clinton; daughters Brenda Haley of Moncton, Lynn Wilson (Eric) of Hillsborough and Alisa Steeves of Cape Station; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, brothers Lovette of Jerseyville, ON and Esmond of Oshawa, ON, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brothers Darrel and Reginald.
Visitation will be held at Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home on Monday, May 2, 2016 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. There will be an Order of the Eastern Star service Monday evening at 6:30pm.
The Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul's United Church, Riverview on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Steve Berube officiating.
Interment will be in Alderwood Cemetery.
Donations in Hilda's memory made to the Lottie L. Kyle Scholarship Fund 169 St. John St. Woodstock, NB E7M-2T9 or to the Moncton Shriner’s Club Transportation Fund would be appreciated by the family. The family wish to express their sincere appreciation to the entire staff at Lakeview Manor for the care given to Mom, your kindness will never be forgotten.
