Mabel Cecily Ferguson Ryan

Passed in: North Sydney
Passed on: April 30th, 2016

Mabel Cecily Ferguson Ryan, age 94, wife and mother, peacefully completed her life’s adventure at home on April 30, 2016.
Our hearts are heavy but the memories she has left with us will be cherished. Left to mourn her passing are her husband of 51 years The Honorable Murray J. Ryan, son Murray (Joanne) and grandson Andrew all of North Sydney. Special nieces Peg LeVatte McCormack and Star LeVatte O’Neill.
Mabel had an adventurous spirit and she loved life to the fullest. Possessing a great dry sense of humor, she was a very humble and private woman who took great pride in her family, home, appearance, and loved to garden. She was a kind, generous and considerate lady who lived her life doing the best for everyone. Originally from Mira, in her early years Mabel spent many hours with her father at the Mira Gut Train Station where her father was the Station Master. Later Mabel taught school in Mira and worked in the General Office at the Steel Plant before she was married.
Through the years Mabel’s love for Mira never faded and right until her death the family property in Mira was food for her soul where she spent summers at the cottage gardening, sitting on the shore and walking the property.
Also surviving are her sisters Theresa LeVatte, Regis MacIntyre, sisters-in-law Kathleen Ryan and Nora Tobin and many nephews and nieces.
Mabel was born in Glace Bay, N.S., March 31, 1922 and she was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Mary Ferguson, siblings, sisters Leona, Margaret Levatte (Daniel), Rita, brother Sandy and brothers-in-law William LeVatte, and Howard MacIntyre.
A very special thank you to Dr. Paul Hickey for his kind heart and always excellent care and bedside manner. Also thank you to Peg Levatte McCormack and Sally Ryan for always being there. We would also like to thank Diana O’Quinn and Madeline Pumphrey for all the help, care, and support they provided Mabel.
As per Mabel’s wishes and in keeping with her sensibilities there will be no visitation.
A private family funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney: with Fr. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Service, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com.
