Myrtle Sabine

Myrtle Ellenora Sabine (nee Grinder) of Swift Current passed away peacefully at the Cypress Regional Hospital on April 23, 2016 at the age of 96. Myrtle was born to the late Tom and Jorand Grinder on July 24, 1919 on the farm in the Neidpath area. She fell in love with a neighbour boy, Leonard Sabine and they were married August 2, 1940 in Swift Current. Shortly after the war called them away and they were stationed in Debert, Nova Scotia for 2 1/12 years. Following the war they farmed and raised their family in the Neidpath area. Upon retirement they moved to Swift Current in 1983. Myrtle was a member of the Neidpath U.C.W. for several years and then St. Olaf E.L.W. at Hallonquist as well as Swift Current. Myrtle loved to cook and bake and was more than eager to help anyone who wanted to learn how to make her favorite Norwegian foods. She had a lovely voice and her children remember her singing in the kitchen as she cooked and baked. Myrtle loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. One of the highlights of her life was when she and Leonard travelled to Norway in 1987 and met many relatives she had only heard about. Myrtle enjoyed curling in earlier years and watching it on televison in later years. She was also an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan. Myrtle is survived by her husband of 75 years, Leonard; daughters: Myrna(Ed) Busse grandchildren Cheryl(Dave) Bulbeck, Kevin(Tammy) Busse; Donna(Don) Lopeter grandchildren Murray((Wendy), Trevor(Theresa), Tara(Shaun); Janice(Guy) Denton grandchildren Randy(Dalles), Greg(Alison) sons: Wayne(Barb) Sabine grandchildren Jacquie(Stacy), Michael(Tricia); Keith Sabine grandchildren Jeff(Sarah), Ramie(Shawn), 21 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren. Myrtle is also survived by her sister Jennie Fontaine, cousin Marie Spate and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents,parents-in-law, two sisters, six brothers and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Granddaughter Jacqueline Dawn Weston(1968). A Celebration of Life Memorial service was held at 2:00p.m. on Sat. April 30, 2016 from St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Kiel officiating. The organist was Arlie Neufeld and a solo by Joyce Olesen. Life tribute to Grandma was presented by Cheryl Bulbeck and Jacquie Bolton. The interment service took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current. Myrtle will forever be treasured in the hearts of her family and friends.
