With special memories and saddened hearts, the family announces the passing of Grace Irene DesRoches on Monday, May 2, 2016, in the An Cala, Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her family by her side.
Born in London, England on Oct. 13, 1920, Grace was the daughter of the late Percy Arthur and Edith Mary (Merchant) Rogers.
She fell in love with Ray Breen from Sydney, N. S. and came to Canada as a war bride in 1946.
Grace enjoyed bowling, playing cards and darts, knitting, reading and baking. She made the best fat archies in the neighbourhood. Grace was a member of Club 55 and the Sydney Pensioner’s Club. Even though she experienced vision problems, Grace remained able to care for herself with the help of her son, Rick and Mary.
She is survived by her only son, Rick (Mary McLean) and stepdaughters, Stella Young and Helen (Francis) Forbrigger. Grace leaves to mourn her passing 20 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Grace was predeceased by her first husband, Raymond Evans Breen; second husband, Emmett DesRoches, as well as her daughter, Cheryl Raylene MacVicar; two children in infancy; son-in-law, Ambrose Young; stepdaughter, Norma Wall. The last surviving member of her immediate family, Grace was predeceased by two sisters and a brother, all living in England.
We would like to thank Dr. Worth and Dr. Parminder, as well as the nurses and volunteers in the palliative care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Their support and care will always be remembered.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday 2 p.m., with Mr. Gary Grant officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the An Cala, Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
