Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at St. Clare's Mercy Home, age 83 years. Predeceased by his parents Daniel and Mary (Mason) Whelan; brothers and sisters Kathleen, Rita, Raymond, Michael and Marie. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 60 years Madeline (nee Gorman); children Brian (Marilyn), Randy, Sharon (Vern), Patricia, Frank, Donna (Derm) Dwyer, Leo (Wanda), Charlotte (Brian) Carey; grandchildren Tanya (Justin), Jeff (Donna), Dawn (Stephen), Robin (Sarah), Jonathan, Lavinia, Laura, Sarah (Mike), Daniel, Beverly and special grandsons Michael (Camilla) and Paul (Dominique); great grandchildren Olivia, Kaylee and Ava; brother Patrick and sister Maureen, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a large circle of family and friends. Augustus was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 1, where they will miss him dearly. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Thursday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Cremation to follow. Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. Inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
