Cyril Martin Canning was born in Williamsport on October 20, 1954 to Harvey and Melah Canning. He moved to Englee when he was two years old until his early teens. From there he moved to Goose Bay for a number of years, then to Dryen, Ontario, then to Digby, Nova Scotia and on to Fort McMurray, Alberta where he resided until his death. He was blessed to have two wonderful sons born from a previous marriage. He met his present wife Maxine in August 1997 at the Come Home Year Reunion at Roddickton. (Surprisingly, they grew up as next door neighbours during their childhood). Then they got married on July 16th, 1999, when he then welcomed a step-daughter into his life. They settled in Digby, Nova Scotia until April 2007 and then on to Fort McMurray, Alberta until his passing on April 20th, 2016.
Cyril was a very proud poppy to his nine wonderful grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. He will be sadly missed by his wife, family, and friends, Gone but not forgotten. Pieces of our hearts are missing now that you are gone. Mr. Cyril Martin Canning leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving wife Maxine; his children Bradley (Stephanie) Canning, Leduc, Alberta, Brent (Rebecca) Canning, Fort McMurray, Alberta; stepdaughter Jasmine (Daniel) McAllister, Calgary, Alberta; his grandchildren Alyssa, Dylan, Eli, Noah, Ian, Aimee, Abigail, Kaidan, and Aaron; his sisters Betsy (Frank) Jenkins, Roddickton, Joyce (Wilson) Gill, Springdale, Blanche (Ray) Adams, Roddickton, Alma (Kevin) Gill, Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Pearl (Paul) Williams, Brigus; in-laws and mother and father-in-law Jane and Douglas Ellsworth, Englee, Kay (David) Giancola, Brantford, Ontario, Kevin (Melita) Ellsworth, Fort McMurray, Keith (Dianna) Ellsworth, Emburn, Ontario, Roger (Dolly) Ellsworth, Englee, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Harvey and Melah Canning, brothers Maxwell and Joshua.
Visitation was held at Calvary Pentecostal Temple in Roddickton from where the funeral service took place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, the 28th day of April, 20 with Pastor Benjamin Brown officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director. In his memory, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
