New Glasgow - Christine Phyllis Alice Sandall, 89, of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, died on May 5, 2016 of age related causes.
Born in London, England, Chris was the daughter of the late Ernest and Alice (Berry) Terry, Compton, near Guilford, Surrey.
She was predeceased by her brother Jim.
Chris is survived by her husband of 60 years, Rodney; son, David and his wife Sylvia, Bangkok; daughter, Sharon, Toronto; son, James, Halifax; daughter, Alice and her husband Tim, Lower Sackville; grandchildren: Sarah, Christa, Marcus and Hayley; and sister-in-law, Maisie and two nieces in England.
A resident of New Glasgow for 50 years, Chris had volunteered with a number of organizations in her community and was actively involved with her church, St. George's Anglican. She was an avid reader and passed the love of reading on to her children. She enjoyed gardening, was a master knitter and made tasty nutmeg cookies. Before coming to Canada, Chris travelled extensively in Europe. In Canada, there were annual family camping vacations and a trip across Canada when Rod retired.
Chris served in the Women's Land Army during the Second World War.
The Sandall family thanks Dr. Melanie MacCara and the nurses of 4th floor Aberdeen Hospital for their care of Chris.
A visitation will be held at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Avenue, New Glasgow from 6-8 pm Sunday. Funeral service will be held at 11 am Monday, at St. George's Anglican Church, 199 Temperance Street, New Glasgow, with Rev. Lid Haugen-Strand officiating.
