Mary Gertrude Quigg

QUIGG, MARY GERTRUDE
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Mary Gertrude (nee Quilty) Quigg on May 6, 2016. She passed away peacefully at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Saint John, on October 4, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary Gertrude (McFadden) Quilty.
She will be sadly missed by her husband of 56 years, John Henry Quigg, three sons, Brian (Wendy) Kevin (Sandra), and Gary (Tracy), two daughters Elizabeth (Beth) Lewis, and Colleen Quigg, all of Saint John and grandchildren Kyle and Gareth (Lewis) Mitchell and Riley, Laura and Jeffrey, Casey and Brenden. Mary is also survived by sisters Connie Hitchcock, Marion (Cyril) Oram, Norma (Andrew) Forbes, and Lynne (Peter Heffernan) McCarthy and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mary Gertrude was predeceased by her brother Francis J. (Bill) Quilty and son-in-law, Mark Lewis.
Mary Gertrude graduated from St. Vincent’s High School and Mount Carmel Academy. She was a dedicated employee of Moosehead Breweries. After staying at home with her children she re-entered the workforce and enjoyed many years working at Ruth Ross Residence.
Mary was a passionate grandmother who was so proud of her grandchildren. They were the “tomato” of her eye. In later years, she was a dedicated Sea Dogs fan, becoming a “cherished billet grandmother” to Vincent Lambert, Pascal Amyot and Zack Phillips. She was a strong supporter of the Montreal Canadians and Toronto Blue Jays.
Mary Gertrude was a friend to all who knew her, kind and quietly generous, and a rock who unfailingly provided support to others.  She valued family as the most important asset of her life. A gracious hostess, she welcomed all who dropped in for a visit.  She will be remembered for her amazing dinners whether it be Sunday or special holidays “ there was always room for one more”. Her table would stretch from wall to wall. She was a life-long member of the Assumption Parish of Saint John West.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John (634-1701). Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 10 from 6 to 8pm and Wednesday, May 11 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church on Dufferin Row in Saint John on Thursday, May 12 at 12:00 noon. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rocmaura Nursing Home for their exceptional and dedicated care, compassion and love for Mary Gertrude. Their kindness was greatly appreciated by the family.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, Heart and Stroke or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences can be made at www.Castlefh.com
