The death occurred at the Wedgewood Manor, Summerside, on Thursday, April 21, 2016, of Doris Hughes, of Summerside, aged 102 years.
Born in Fernwood, she was the daughter of the late Swithen and Lily (McBride) McKenna.
Survived by her granddaughters Carmen Riedel and Monique Riedel (Rob Lutes); great-grandchildren Cormac and Simone; step-children Lorraine Allen, Marie (Pascual) Rodriguez, Pauline (Peter) Ackermans and Muriel (Richard) Stephenson; several step-grandchildren; sister-in-law Zita McKenna; special nieces Barbara (Alan) Bowness and Beverly (Barry) MacDonald; and numerous nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
Predeceased by first husband Austin Murphy and second husband George Hughes; daughter Dr. Catherine Murphy; sister Myrtle Keough and by brothers Cedric, Fr. Thomas and Everett; and by son-in-law Arnold Allen.
Resting at the Moase Funeral Home, Summerside, until Saturday, then to St. Paul’s Church, Summerside, for funeral mass at 9:30 a.m.
Interment in St. Peter’s Church Cemetery, Seven Mile Bay. Visiting hours Friday from 6-8 p.m.
Members of the St. Paul’s Catholic Women’s League will hold a prayer service at the funeral home Friday at 5:45 p.m.
Memorial donations to the Prince County Hospital Foundation or the Baby Knox Hann Medical Expense Fund would be appreciated.
