Passed on: May 11th, 2016

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our husband, father and ‘Grampy’, Edward ‘Eddy’ Sullivan, age 81, on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Eddy was born Dec. 11, 1934 in North Sydney, the son of the late John and Kathleen (Hare) Sullivan.
For over a combined 40 years he worked for CN Marine and later Marine Atlantic in North Sydney, where he was known to be a bit of a joker, quick with his wit and generous with his laughter.
A lifetime sportsman, in his younger years Eddy played hockey in North Sydney and took pride in winning multiple championships. It was through hockey and his interests in fishing, hunting, curling, harness racing and cards that he made many of his lifelong friends.
Eddy is going to be missed dearly by his wife Neila (MacGillivary); his children, Kim (Paul) Denney, Allan (Kim) Sullivan, Kelly (Doug) Carter and Neil (Jennifer) Sullivan. He will be cherished in the thoughts of his grandchildren, Allan, Myles, Billy, Nolan, Mitchell, Douglas, Jonathan, John Cameron, Connor; his only granddaughter Madison; three great-grandchildren, Noah, Layla and Slayter. Ed is also survived by his brother Robert ‘Hap’ (Christine) Sullivan and sister-in-law Sandra MacGillivary.
Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by his son Billy, his father and mother-in-law Neil and Millie MacGillivary, brother-in-law Dr. William MacGillivary and a brother in infancy.
We would like to thank his card buddies George, Vickie and Lendal (in spirit) for keeping the games going until the end. To Gordie, Lois and Sylvia for regular visits (with treats) and to Ray for his friendship until the end.
As well we are forever grateful for the exceptional care he received from Dr. Paul Hickey, Dr. Ritter, Cathy McMullin of Palliative Care, the Regional Hospital Cancer Centre, VON, Home Care and lastly Unit 4E for allowing Dad and his family to finish this grand journey with compassion and dignity.
By Dad’s request cremation has taken place. A visitation for close friends and family will be held 2-3 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, followed by a service to celebrate his life at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Julio Martin officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton, the CNIB, or the Terry Fox Foundation. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com.
In the end, he was proud of what truly mattered in life: his family, his friendships and that he won more than he lost.
