Cornelia ‘Corrie’ Berk, of the Buckwheat Road, Hunters Mountain passed away May 12, 2016, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Utrecht, Holland in 1933, the daughter of the late Cornelia den Blanken and Johannis van den Bosch. She immigrated to Canada in 1955, settling in Cape Breton, where she lived and raised her family. She was a hardworking, determined individual who accepted things as they came to her one day at a time.
She was employed over the years as a seamstress, homemaker, and childcare provider. She was an avid knitter, reader and gardener. She leaves behind her cat “Jack”, her trusted companion.
She is survived by her sons, Francis (Shannon), Georges River, John (Pam), Nyanza, Gerry (Daphne), North Sydney, Leo (Kim Fenwick), Fredericton N.B.; daughters, Maria (Roderick) Nicholson, Big Baddeck and Pat (Gordon) Matheson, Baddeck. Loving grandmother to 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Corrie leaves behind her sisters, Nel van den Bosch, Ria van den Bosch, Jannie Saalberg, and Adrie Wahle, Holland.
Special thank you to all the caregivers, too numerous to mention, that helped her over the years.
Cremation has taken place and as per her wishes there will be no visitation. The funeral will be held at St. Michaels Church, Baddeck, on May 16, 2016, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Michaels Cemetery. Family flowers only by request. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
