SISTER GEORGINA PATENAUDE
1929 – 2016
Sister Georgina Patenaude (Soeur Marie de Fatima) Fille de la Providence passed away peacefully in Prince Albert on May 13, 2016 at the infirmary of the Sisters of the Presentation at age of 86 years. Sister Georgina was born December 28, 1929, in Périgord Saskatchewan. In 1948 she pronounced her first vows in the Congregation of Les Filles de la Providence/Daughters of Providence. Sister Georgina began her mission work in St. Louis Sask. then spent one year in Montreal. Upon returning to Saskatchewan she spent many years in charge of young girls at the convent of St Louis and St. Brieux. From 1965 to 1968 she was in charge of the French Kindergarten in Saskatoon. She also served many years in pastoral care at the University Hospital. She served as Provincial Superior from 1980 to 1992, then from 1995 to 2000 as Superior General for the Congregation. Sister Georgina’s responsibilities took her on many trips across the country, and also to different countries including Africa where Les Filles de la Providence were missionaries. Sister Georgina will be remembered for her great love of the Congregation and her family. Her sense of humor was appreciated by all who knew her. Her hospitality, compassion and care were without bounds. She made many lasting friendships over the years. From April 2008 to June 2014 she moved to an Assisted Living Accommodation at Columbian Manor Saskatoon where she made many friends. When she was in need of more care she was accepted at the infirmary of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in Prince Albert. Sister Georgina leaves to mourn her Religious Community Les Filles de la Providence, two sisters Bernadette Pagé, Angèle Bjorgaard, one brother Leo Patenaude and many nieces and nephews. Les Filles de la Providence with Sister Georgina’s family wish to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and Sisters of the Presentation for their great kindness and compassionate care. Prayers will be held at 7 o’clock on May 20 at the Sisters of Presentation 1445 Pascal Place in Prince Albert, Sask. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St Louis, Saturday, May 21 at 11: 00 a.m. with Bishop Albert Thevenot presiding. Rite of committal will take place at the cemetery in St.Louis.
