Deborah Shanks

Shanks, Deborah Theresa
It is with great sadness that the family of Debbie (Colford) Shanks announces her passing on May 19th, 2016 at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, NS. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Brophy) and wife to Robert Shanks of Oromocto, NB.
Debbie was born April 30th, 1950 in the small community of Howards, NB. She graduated from Blackville High School and went on to Campbellton to become an LPN.
She loved helping others, and it was evident in the care she provided to patients throughout the years at Pine Grove Nursing Home and later as a phlebotomist at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Above all, she loved her family. She was inspired by the love and strength of her parent’s marriage and her biggest accomplishments were becoming Robert’s wife in 1972, and then a mother and grandmother. Her family provided her amazing memories that she held onto tightly. She will be missed dearly for her love, support and passion for life.
She was a President of the Association of NB Practical Nurses, Board member and President of NB Head Injury Association and secretary for the board at VON Oromocto. She loved listening to country music, sewing and interior design
Debbie is survived by her husband, Robert; her daughters, Jennifer Hogan-Bates and Theresa Theriault (Andre); grandchildren, Jacob Hogan, Jaiden Hogan, George Bates, Simon Theriault, Charlie Theriault and Victor Theriault; brothers, “Petie” Colford (late Grace), John Colford, Herbie Colford (Diane) and Dannie Colford (Marina) and one sister, Jeannie Smith (Steven) as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
In addition to her parents, Deborah is predeceased by her brother Clarence Colford (late Patsy) and David Colford (Susan).
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home on Sunday, May 22nd, 2016 from 1 to 3 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 23rd, 2016 at 1:00 pm at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Ken Weir. For those who wish, donations in memory of Debbie may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation or to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation. www.oromoctofh.com
